My Bio
Hello, my name is Diana Franco-Galindo and I am a Mexican-Guatemalan bilingual graduate student. I have years of experience working with adults of all ages and diverse populations. My main focus is the Latinx population, as my parents were immigrants and, due to their sacrifice, I am where I am today. I received my BSW from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 2019. A masters degree at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. I am a former intern at the esteemed Congregational Social Work Education Initiative (CSWEI) and am currently a part of the Sunrise-Amanecer team.

Trainings
My trainings have been built up over years of professional work experience, as well as research and simple observation. I have a great balance between industry-specific skills and soft skills, which means I have what it takes to do brilliant work and make a contribution to any team. If you are interested in getting to know more about me and the trainings I possess, do not hesitate to contact me! I would love to discuss with you all the tools, skills, and more I can put to use for you.

Trans Safe Zone Trainings
The Safe Zone Training broke down information in four meetings: addressing healthcare, intersex, the transgender community, and terminology. I got to ask questions, address concerns, and get resources for the transgender community. I learned different ways the transgender community is affected in healthcare and the proper ways to address their concerns.
El Futuro Latinx Mental Health Conference
El Futuro conference was a team of people from all different professional backgrounds and cultures. We learned about the disparities among the Latinx community. We have two steps when it comes to working on mental health in the community: (1) destigmatize mental health and (2) educate the client on mental health.
HRSA OWEP
After winning the HRSA OWEP scholarship, we were provided with several trainings that allowed us to have a more in-depth understanding of how substance use is affecting people in our country. Having personal experience on substance use, I got to learn more about how substance use has affected my life and what I can do to help others. This is not black and white and there is more to substance use than just "stop using the substance."
Awards

HRSA OWEP
HRSA OWEP allows us to get additional trainings to further educate ourselves on the impact of substance use in our country. I learned how to empathize with those who suffer from substance use disorders. It is not as black and white as it may appear, and it is not just about stopping. This has also inspired me to pursue a dually licensed.

Phi Alpha National Social Work Honor Society
Having a 3.5 or higher GPA qualifies social work majors for Phi Alpha. I was in Phi Alpha in undergraduate school and graduate school; it taught me to connect with like-minded individuals. We are asked about our future in social work and how we plan to make a change in the world. Personally, it is an honor.

Academic papers
Multicultural Competence
The JMSW Program's core foundation is built on a multicultural clinical practice. By working with a diverse population, I gained a deeper understanding of privilege. Additionally, knowing that competence is hard to gain, we, at the JMSW Program, strive to have cultural sensitivity. As clinicians, our job is to get educated on our client's culture; we are never to assume we know it all. This is why social work is a career where we are always learning. We sign up to continuously learn and grow as clinicians and people and to speak for those who cannot. At one point, I was my parent's voice, and now I vow to be my client's.
Diversity Class
My Growth in Multiculturalism
We were required to write about how diversity has impacted us. I discussed my growth in finding myself and my passion for social justice. I got to break down things that make me unique and how my experiences allow me to be a better clinician. This paper also allowed me to recognize privilege and how easy it is to not empathize when we are not affected. Overall, I believe we should all do this paper in our lives to give us an insight on our diversity and privilege.

My Growth in Multiculturalism
We were asked to reflect on a time we were the oppressor. This was difficult because we like to think we have never been an oppressor. I had to step back and look at moments where I have let my own biases get the best of me. It is a moment of true reflection and vunerability. We would like to think that we would never intentionally cause harm, but, in moments of true reflection, we need to acknowledge when we have been the oppressors to truly grow.

Examples of Clinical Competence

Case Assessment of Sergio and Richard
This case assessment showcases my skills in engagement, intervention, and evaluation of clients Richard and Sergio. This assignment gives the reader an idea of the process I take when I am in a session. Since Sergio and Richard's case was so complex, I had many routes I could take to ensure the goals of our clients were accomplished. Having some practice with the LGBTQ+ and immigrant populations, I was able to use this knowledge to create a treatment plan for them. That being said, I did learn that cases are often complex, and having a couple with such different personalities created an environment of growth for everyone.

Case study: Helga
Helga, is a fictional client, breaks down my analysis of a theoretical framework. Helga is a complex client who had several things that needed to be addressed. During this, assignment I learned the importance of asking the right questions because there were so many things that were unclear. Not asking the right questions could have changed so many things. If Helga would have been a client of mine, I would have gathered more information to make a clearer diagnosis and treatment plan.

CSWEI Case Presentation
We were asked to talk about a client who impacted us the most and break down the case to highlight critical thinking. I chose this client because John was someone who caused a huge impact in my life. He was going through things and, during our visit, we were able to connect and build rapport. The client did report having suicidal ideations which is why a safety plan and connection to an MSW was important. The client tried to commit suicide that same week. These are the clients that remind us how important this job is. I followed up with this client even after the internship and found that he was in a rehabilitation program. I learned that social work is not just filling out data and giving resources; we change people's lives and they change ours.

Process Recording
This is a ten minute glimpse of a nearly verbatim part of a session I had with a client. This not only gives the reader a look into my communication skills as I work with a client, but also provides a critical response of my thought process through the session. During this session, I remember being nervous because, at first, I was too focused on the assignment that I forgot to pay closer attention to the client. When I lowered my pen and just talked to the client, we connected and talked about the client's growth. She was so proud and I was happy for the client. Social work is just as much as an art as it is a science.
